Running with the Bull Markets in India
I am Dhairyasheel Pawar from CMC Limited, India’s leading IT company and a part of the Tata group, a $70 billion business conglomerate. CMC provides a wide spectrum of end-to-end unique Information Technology solutions and services to clients in India and overseas. My team and I carried out the BOLT Migration to Itanium Servers and I’m excited that our solution has been selected as a finalist in the Mission-Critical Category of the prestigious Itanium Innovation Awards. The BOLT system developed by CMC for BSE is India’s first on-line Trading System for trading in Stocks replacing the manual outcry system at Bombay Stock Exchange - the oldest Stock Exchange in South East Asia - used by brokers and investors worldwide.
In 2007, incredible market growth and fiercely traded IPOs stretched existing system resources to breaking point. Capturing IPO momentum in a bull market is the key to success for any Exchange. More IPOs were expected in Jan 08 so BSE decided to migrate to HP Itanium-based servers. With a ten week deadline for migration, and with ambitious performance targets, we moved at a frenetic pace, tight schedules, and eleventh hour hiccups, concluding with a smooth shift to production in Nov 07. The IPOs coming as they did in Jan 08 sailed through effortlessly on the new system!! Today, BOLT runs on state-of- the-art Itanium servers, confidently meeting performance targets.
I am sorry that I would be unable to attend the Itanium Innovation Awards Celebration on 23 Sept, however my colleague Karthi Madhavan, Regional Manager from our Sunnyvale office would be attending on my behalf.
